“I’m Sorry Mrs. Nancy Eshun, but after this surgery, you won’t be able to have children of your own.” the doctor announced.

Nancy could feel her throat go dry, this wasn’t the news she was expecting to hear, “But I don’t have any kids,” she thought to herself.

“Then can I have the surgery after I have given birth?” she asked hoping there was some good news for her but the doctor shook his head.

“I wish I could say yes, but the truth is all your ovaries have been affected. You have ovarian cancer which was not detected early, it has affected every single ovary and if not taken out it will lead to a life-threatening situation.” The doctor said,

She could feel her heart crashing violently against her chest, what was she going to do now? What was she to tell her in-laws who were asking her for children? How was she going to explain this to her husband who was so eager to be a father? She looked up with a faint smile across her lips, 

“Can you give me a little more time to think about the consent form before I sign them?” she asked.

“Sure,” the doctor replied.

That night as her husband gobbled down his dinner, she joined him at the dining table,

“Did you pick up the results today?” he asked.

“Yes I did,” she replied.

“Hope everything was calm,” he remarked.

She shook her head, Reggie stared at his wife not sure of what to say next, 

“They say I have ovarian cancer, all my ovaries are after and I have to get surgery before it’s too late… and oh, they say we can never have children.”

Reggie stopped eating as the rest of the food he had already gobbled down suspended in his throat refusing to go down to be digested. They both sat down quietly at the table for a long while before Reggies spoke,

“So should we just give up on having kids and just focus on loving each other?” he asked.

“No… you know me Reggie, I never give up,” she said as an evil smile crept to the corner of her lips.

“Do you have a plan then? Like adoption?”
“Even better… a way better plan” she responded; Her sinister smile getting even bigger.
