A Good Reason To Be Bad (Part 15)

Reuben let Reggie inside, closing the door behind him. "So, who else did you get pregnant besides Esaaba? Are you seeing someone else?" he asked, puzzled.

“No, Esaaba is the only one besides my wife,” Reggie answered.

“Then who else is pregnant?” Reuben asked, trying to make sense of the situation.

“Nancy!” Reggie sighed, “Nancy told me she’s pregnant.”

Reuben’s confusion grew. “Wait, didn’t you say Nancy was told she couldn’t conceive?”

“Exactly. That was the doctor’s report,” Reggie replied, frustrated. “It’s why she introduced other women into our lives. I’ve explained all this before.”

Reuben tried to calm him down. “You need to approach this tactfully. Nancy’s pregnancy isn’t a sure thing given her medical history. Even if you’re considering asking Esaaba to terminate her pregnancy, you need to confirm how far along Nancy is and her health before making any drastic decisions.”

Reggie sighed. “Nancy was so furious she kicked me out. Could you call her and ask if she’s really pregnant? If she is, she’d have likely gone to the doctor.”

Reuben shook his head, “If she’s not telling you, she won’t tell me either.”

Reggie thought for a moment. “Then what do we do?”

“Let’s ask Jolene to check,” Reuben suggested. Jolene, Reuben’s fiancée, was close to Nancy and might get a straight answer. They filled Jolene in, and she agreed to help. She called Nancy, connecting Reuben so they could listen silently.

“Nancy, what’s going on?” Jolene asked. “Reggie is over here, hijacking my man for the night. Did you two fight?”

“Oh, so he went to Reuben’s place? I thought he’d be with that girlfriend of his. That’s a relief,” Nancy replied.

“Why? Did you want him to go there?”

“No, not really. But I regret letting him pick his own side girlfriend. Now he’s so attached to Esaaba, and he’s claiming she’s pregnant.”

“So, you’re mad because Esaaba’s pregnant?”

“No,” Nancy said, “I’m upset because I feel I could lose him to her if I’m not careful. I have to end things with her and choose a better candidate this time. I don’t trust that girl.”

“I thought you said you were pregnant,” Jolene said. “That’s what Reggie told me.”

Nancy laughed, “Pregnant? Of course not. I just told him that to push him to end things with Esaaba so I can find someone more suitable.”

Reggie, overhearing this, was furious. He could barely contain his anger, realizing how much he had been manipulated.
