A Good Reason To Be Bad (Part 2)
After the surgery:
"My mother is here, she says she wants to see you she hasn't since you were discharged" Reggie informed his wife one evening.
"She's going to ask me about grandchildren again, don't let her into this bedroom," Nancy said and turned around in her bed to face the wall.
"Come on, I can't tell my mother to leave after travelling all the way here? Just relax, I won't let her bother you." Reggie assured his wife. Nancy knew better than to argue with him so she reserved her energy as she lay in down, with her eyes half closed.
Serwaa, came in a few minutes later, majestically dressed, with a beautiful perm cut. She sat on the bed and tapped Nancy who turned around.
"Maa, good to see you,"
"I hope you are fine," she asked.
"Yes, Gradually my strength is coming back," Nancy said as her eyes searched the room for any sign of her husband, he had betrayed her leaving her alone with his mother.
"We thank God, now that your strength is returning, I hope you are planning on getting pregnant soon, you are not getting any younger, and neither is my son or even me. You need to start pushing out those babies while we still have the strength to help you. What on earth are you waiting for?" Serwaa said calmly but with a straight face that made Nacy uncomfortable.
"Maa, I've told you the babies will come when they come." Reggie lamented when he barged into the room.
"I thought I told you not to interrupt us?" Serwaa said sternly.
"I thought I also told you not to bother my wife with children. If you want children so badly, go and adopt them.” Reggie angrily exclaimed.
“Is that any way to talk to your mother?” She tried to play the victim.
“Maa, Nancy just had surgery, you can’t pressure her into having kids to make you happy, that’s selfish!”
“It’s been 3 months, what kind of healing takes more than 3 months.” Serwaa clapped back. Nancy began to cry as she turned again to face the wall, making Reggie very angry. He hated to see his wife crying and anytime this happened it was because of his mother. He couldn’t take this anymore.
“Maa, can you excuse Nancy and me? We want some privacy,” he said.
“I was even on my way out,” she said and stormed out of the room and headed straight for the guest bedroom.
Reggie sat on the bed lifted his wife into his arms and wiped her tears, “just ignore her”
“I can’t continue ignoring her, even I can’t wait to hear a baby crying in this house.” She said tearfully.
Reggie looked sad, “so what do we do? Should we adopt?” he asked.
“The process is too cumbersome, I have a cheaper and way better alternative,” she said with a smile on her face.
“What’s this great idea of yours? I've been dying to hear it,” he said eagerly.
“Wait, you are about to find out in a few days,” she replied.
