He Cheats But That's Alright

He's kind—very kind. He sends me lunch at work at least once a week, and considering how much I love to eat, this gesture melts my heart. He takes me on trips to places I’ve never been before, places I could never afford on my own. I loved Geoffrey for that. But every time I went through his phone, I would cry.

Geoffrey is a chronic cheat. He cheats even with my picture as his DP, even with my face plastered on his status for the world to see, declaring his undying love for me. He’s still deep in the DMs of other women, professing his love to them as well. Getting mad at him is pointless. He apologizes sweetly, showers me with gifts, kisses me tenderly, and takes me on another breathtaking trip. And every single time, I forgive him. Only for him to do it again.

I have a collection of costly wigs—apology gifts from Geoffrey. I have a 64-inch TV, another apology gift. I even have a diamond ring—an engagement ring and an apology rolled into one. But Geoffrey hasn’t changed. He cheats, and then he makes it up to me with grand gestures. Recently, he came to perform my knocking rites. We’re supposed to be married soon. And that’s why I have a headache.

I’ve stopped confronting him about his cheating. It’s useless. But one day, in a moment of pure stupidity, I confronted one of his girlfriends. She irritated me beyond reason—annoying, intrusive, a woman who didn’t know her limits. That’s why I called her. What followed was a back-and-forth exchange, petty and beneath me, but it happened. And then, suddenly, she said something that cut me deeper than I’d like to admit.

“You are selfish,” she spat. “You want everything to yourself. What is wrong with Geoffrey being a little kind to all of us? All you care about is yourself. He gives you money, so what’s your business if he’s giving someone else money? Is the money for only you? Even his mother isn’t complaining—what gives you the right to complain?”

Her words stung. They lingered, sharp and biting. It’s true, isn’t it? Even his mother isn’t complaining, so why am I? I get my share. Should it really matter who else is enjoying him? Enjoyment isn’t meant for one person—it’s for all of us.

So, yes, Geoffrey cheats. But maybe that’s alright. As long as we all feel loved.
