The Other Woman is Not Your Friend

Six months into our relationship, TK handed me a key to his place. I preferred being there—it was peaceful, the fridge was always stocked, and it felt like a sanctuary. TK had a farm he visited every weekend, giving me much-needed alone time. I enjoyed those weekends immensely, often frying chips and lounging on the couch, savoring the quiet.

One afternoon, as I stretched out on the couch, the sound of the door unlocking startled me. My heart raced. Who could it be? I grabbed a pair of scissors from the table, ready to defend myself if needed. The door swung open, and to my surprise, a woman about my age walked in. She froze when she saw me.

“Who are you?” I asked, summoning every ounce of courage.

“I’m Obaa Yaa, TK’s girlfriend. You must be his cousin,” she said confidently.

My stomach dropped. “I’m also his girlfriend,” I replied, my voice firm but trembling inside.

We both stood there, silent and stunned. It was clear neither of us was ready for a fight—not with each other, at least. After a moment, Obaa Yaa broke the silence. “I only came here to surprise him. Turns out, he had a bigger surprise for me,” she said bitterly.

We decided to call TK. The moment he picked up, we unleashed our anger, hurling insult after insult. He stayed silent, taking it all without a single word. When we were done, Obaa Yaa and I exchanged contacts and left.

Over the following days, she called me often to rant about everything she had done for TK and how he had repaid her with betrayal. I listened, hurt but unsure if I was ready to let go. She seemed resolute in ending things, but I couldn’t bring myself to promise the same.

When TK came begging for forgiveness, I took him back, though trust was shattered. I began going through his phone, and that’s when I uncovered their conversations. He was still begging Obaa Yaa to come back, professing his love for her and reminiscing about their time together. He spent nights at her place and even mocked me in their chats. My heart broke as I read her messages:

“Do you know what she said about you today? Things I would never say about you to anyone, yet you cheated on me with her.”

He would apologize, grovel, and continue their rendezvous. Anger boiled within me, but I stayed silent. I needed to hurt enough to walk away.

One day, Obaa Yaa called again to rant about TK. Little did she know, I had seen through her two-faced act. After listening patiently, I dropped a bombshell.

“That’s sick. I found out he’s dating countless women. Recently, he came begging me, saying he never loved you, that you’re disrespectful and a cheat. Can you believe it? He said he was only with you for fun!” I laughed, adding fuel to the fire.

Her fury ignited, sparking a massive fight between them. I eavesdropped on their heated calls and read their exchanges, amused at the chaos. She would call me afterward, claiming she had blocked him and was done for good, but I knew better.

Eventually, I realized I was playing a pointless game. They deserved each other, but I deserved better. That night, as I listened to yet another argument between them, something in me clicked. I couldn’t keep degrading myself like this.

I confronted TK for the last time. “My father raised me better than this. He showed me what real love looks like, and it’s not this nonsense. I’m done.”

With those words, I found the strength to walk away. He tried to come back, and Obaa Yaa still tried to gossip about him with me, but I had moved on. I had no time for their drama.

Finally, I realized: I’m worth so much more than the scraps they offered.
