You Can't Have a Sugar Daddy and a Boyfriend

I was only with him for the money. He was old enough to be my father, with a wife and kids, so I knew there was no future. But Jervis would come around, sit outside with me, and talk for ages. He’d take me to public places so everyone would think I was taken. I didn’t like that—I wanted our relationship to be as discreet as possible. I didn’t want to ruin my chances of meeting a potential partner while I was with a man I knew I had no future with.

One day at work, a client came in and got on my last nerve. I was so mad that I spoke to him quite rudely. Only after our exchange did I realize how handsome he was: tall, with a thick build, dark chocolate skin—exactly how I liked my men. Fortunately for me, my attitude didn’t stop him from coming back, and one day, he took my number. He was so fine that he could do no wrong in my eyes. That day, when I closed from work, he texted and offered me a ride. I was already heading home with Jervis, so I texted Eugene, "Oh, sorry, I’m already on my way home."

"Where do you live?" he asked, and I told him. "Okay then, I’ll meet you there," he replied.

I told Jervis that I had some things to buy, so he should drop me off at a shop near my place. I got out of the car, and sure enough, Eugene was waiting for me. I told Jervis to go ahead and leave first, but he looked reluctant. After a bit of convincing, he finally drove off. At that moment, Eugene called me frantically, and as soon as Jervis left, I hopped into Eugene’s car. We drove off, chatting and having a great time. Later that night, as soon as I got home, Jervis called me, ranting, "So, it was because of another man! Why are you acting like this?" I was shocked, wondering how he even knew.

I tried to be more careful, but it was hard. I’d be with Jervis, and Eugene would call. Then I’d be with Eugene, and Jervis would call. One day, I came clean about the love triangle to Eugene. I felt that it wasn't fair that he didn't know what was going on. But I also assured him that I was on the verge of breaking up with Jervis. He believed me and asked me to hurry things up, but of course, I didn’t break up with Jervis—he was my ride home from work, my extra source of income, my rent payer. How could I leave him?

Then one day, Jervis was with me when Eugene called, saying he wanted to come over. I lied and said I wasn’t home. Eugene asked me to come over instead, so I went but put my phone on airplane mode as soon as I arrived. We were talking when Eugene took my phone to install something for me, and he took it off airplane mode. Instantly, my phone started ringing—it was Jervis. Eugene was furious. He got so mad that I had to leave his place.

When I got home, Jervis was also mad and started ranting at me. I was taking heat from both of them. The worst part was that neither wanted to walk away; they both kept tormenting me. They didn’t want to let me play them, but they wouldn’t let me go, either. Finally, I’d had enough. I couldn’t take the pressure anymore. A girl can’t have it all—a sugar daddy, a boyfriend, and peace of mind. One had to go. In fact, I let both of them go. I was done. If they wouldn’t let me play the game, then they could at least let me be.
